The story of L’Artisan Parfumeur begins in the vibrant cultural landscape of 1970s France, amid the New Wave and avant-garde movements, guided by the vision of French chemist and botanist Jean Laporte. In 1976, Laporte founded the Maison with a desire to explore uncharted olfactory territory, translating his fascination with nature into bold, imaginative fragrances that captured the essence of the world around him. In doing so, he pioneered what would later be recognized as niche perfumery, forever transforming the landscape of modern fragrance.
For Laporte, perfume was never just a product; it was an intimate, artistic expression. His 1978 creation, Mûre et Musc, exemplified this vision. By placing white musk at the heart of the composition rather than using it merely as a supporting note, the fragrance became a defining moment in perfumery and set the tone for L’Artisan Parfumeur’s dedication to originality, natural raw materials, and artisanal craftsmanship.
Beyond his own creations, Laporte championed creative freedom for perfumers, encouraging them to experiment with unconventional ingredients and craft deeply personal olfactory stories. This philosophy became a cornerstone of the brand, a principle that endures today. Guided by complete creative freedom and inspired by the richness of nature, L’Artisan Parfumeur continues to reinvent the codes of contemporary perfumery while remaining true to its uniquely French savoir-faire.
Over the decades, L’Artisan Parfumeur has become celebrated for its bold, unexpected combinations, with fragrances such as Premier Figuier Extrême, Histoire d’Orangers, and Mandarina Corsica evoking landscapes, memories, and emotions through sophisticated, nature-inspired compositions.

Celebrating Craftsmanship à la Française
L’Artisan Parfumeur exists to celebrate creation and creators. It gives carte blanche to perfumers, artists, and artisans, offering them a space to imagine, express, and craft within a universe shaped by intuition and mastery. This approach is distinctly French—an elegant balance of freedom and craftsmanship.
Over the years, the Maison has collaborated with some of the most respected perfumers of our time. Each creation, from Antoine Maisondieu’s À Fleur de Pêche to Christophe Raynaud’s Cuir Grenat and Daphné Bugey’s sun-drenched Soleil de Provence, reflects a singular artistic vision while remaining true to L’Artisan Parfumeur’s DNA.
Acquired by Puig in 2015, the Maison continues to flourish within a curated portfolio of Love Brands. To mark its 50th anniversary, L’Artisan Parfumeur is bringing its creative spirit to life through a series of immersive activations and exhibitions. Highlights include a limited-edition presentation of Mûre et Musc available exclusively at the Saint-Honoré boutique in Paris, L’Arrière Boutique in Shanghai, recreating the creative backstage where Jean Laporte composed his first pot-pourri, and a collaboration with renowned pastry chef Cédric Grolet, who reinterprets the iconic blackberry-shaped bottle of Mûre & Musc Extrême as a trompe-l’œil creation celebrating illusion, savoir-faire and sensory emotion. In Paris, the Hors les murs exhibition further explores the inspirations of Jean Laporte, revealing how fragrance, objects, materials and design came together in his creative universe.
Today, L’Artisan Parfumeur stands as a beacon of French niche perfumery. Its classics endure, timeless in their elegance, while new creations continue to push the boundaries of imagination, honoring Jean Laporte’s legacy of bold originality, creative freedom and craftsmanship.
